"There exists in every age, in every society, a small, still choir of reason emanating from a few scattered thinkers ignored by the mainstream. Their collective voices, when duly discovered a century or so too late, reveal what was wrong with that society and age, and how it could have been corrected if only people had listened and acted accordingly. Richard Mitchell's is such a voice. It could help make a better life for you or, if it is too late for that, at least for your children. Ignore it at your and their peril." (John Simon ) <more on Mitchell>
Breaking through the social conscienceness comes recently (i.e. in the last 200, give or take 5000, years ) a more public declaration of the individual's understanding that there is indeed a conspiracy in place to enslave the minds of society and halt the progress that may threaten the current social order. This "conspiracy" is self evident to anyone who attempts to enlighten or change the world around them.
What is the root of this conspiracy? How can it be destroyed?
These are questions often asked. When they are answered they are answered incorrectly. Why? Because if someone knew the real answers then the problem would no longer exist.
So what is the root? I don't know. As a child I have little knowledge of the matter. What I expect though, is that there is no one to blame. There is no government, no religion, no ideology, no group, no individual that holds the chains by which we are ensnared. Instead I expect from limited experience that we ourselves are to blame for our captivity.
Who is we? Not you or I, because you and I fight against such things. We are not part of the problem.
I ask you then; are we part of the solution?
I know that I am not. That I were would be a dream. A knight atop his noble steed riding forth to do battle with the demons of the day. Such is not the case, for I forsee the battle's end. I see where I am forced to flee and never ride again. Or worse I see small victory that smells of compromise. And spend my days defending bridges I once supposed to cross.
Why would I be defeated? Why would I "turn to the dark side"? Because I am human. I have the strength of human, the weakness of human, and I would in essence pit human nature against itself.
Is there hope? The answer is up to you. I am filled with both hope and despair. The joy of power and the fury of powerless ness.
I will fight. And when I compromise my morals, my values, my goals will you forgive me?
